Vahldorf biogas plant

Commissioned in 2019, the biogas plant in Vahldorf, Germany is the newest of bioconstruct’s own plants. Located between the Altmark and Magdeburger Börde, it borders directly on the Mittelland Canal. The plant can reach a feed-in capacity of 700 Nm³/h of biomethane, and turns maize silage, whole grain plant silage and sugar beet feedstocks, and various types of farm manure into an average of 500kW of electricity. The biogas is upgraded to biomethane using a chemical pressure washing process, which has so far distinguished itself via very low electricity consumption. Since the EU RED II directive has been implemented into national law, we have been producing advanced biomethane from farm manure for the fuel sector. Since the first certification in 2020, we have already been able to significantly increase our share within the fuel market.

Electricity production is flexibly determined according to the demand situation on the electricity market. By means of demand-orientated feed-in, electricity production can be driven up to 1.174 MW during high-price phases via two CHPs, and during low-price phases, operations can be completely shut down by the hour. The heat that is generated is reused both throughout the process, and for drying wood. Another special feature is the external desulphurisation system, which reduces the costs for operating materials such as iron hydroxide, elemental oxygen and activated carbon for desulphurisation, considering the increased use of commercial fertiliser.
